What we collect

When you use Gift of Gab, we collect:

• Account information — your email address and display name when you sign up.
• Journal entries — audio recordings, transcripts, text notes, and photos you create.
• Tags and metadata — tags you add to entries, entry dates, and privacy settings.
• Journal settings — journal names, child names (if provided), onboarding preferences.

How we store it

All data is stored securely using Supabase, which provides encrypted database storage and authenticated file storage. Audio files and photos are stored in private storage buckets accessible only to authenticated users with the appropriate permissions.

Who can see your data

• You can see all entries in journals you own.
• Contributors you invite can see non-private entries in journals you grant them access to.
• Private entries are visible only to the person who created them — never shared with contributors, recipients, or included in printed products.
• No one else has access to your data. We do not sell, share, or monetize your personal information.

Third-party services

Gift of Gab uses the following third-party services:

• Supabase — database, authentication, and file storage.
• Expo / React Native — app framework (no data shared with Expo).

In the future, we plan to integrate transcription (Deepgram) and AI tagging (Anthropic Claude) services. Audio sent to these services will be processed solely for transcription and tagging purposes and will not be retained by these providers beyond processing.

Data deletion

You can delete your account and all associated data at any time from the app:

• Go to Settings → Profile & Account → Delete Account.
• You will be offered the option to export your data before deletion.
• Deletion removes all journals, entries, audio files, photos, tags, and your user profile.

Data export

You can request a full export of your data from Settings → Data & Privacy → Export all data. This includes all entries, transcripts, photos, and tags.

Children's privacy

Gift of Gab is designed for parents and caregivers to document their children's lives. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children. All content is created and managed by adult account holders.

Changes to this policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of any significant changes through the app or via email.
